Transformation of Stationspostgebouw The Hague has started

gepubliceerd op:

The redevelopment of national monument the Stationspostgebouw in The Hague has started. For clients LIFE NL and SENS real estate, the historic building, a design by state architect Bremer, will undergo a stunning transformation from post sorting centre to office.

The postal company will return to their old headquarters at Station Hollands Spoor (HS). The Stationspostgebouw will house the new headquarters of PostNL; Fosbury & Sons, that offers co-working spaces, will also be renting a space in the building. A total of approximately 32,000m² will be converted into office space.

KCAP Architects & Planners is involved as the architect and SWINN functions as construction advisor for the entire main load-bearing frame.

Transformation

The coming period, the building will be transformed by Bouwcombinatie Besix/J.P. van Eesteren based on PostNL's wishes. Four new mezzanines will be created through the realisation of new intermediate floors and staircases. The centre of the building will feature a large atrium that will visibly connect all storeys. And the many new large open spaces create maximum light exposure, giving rise to a modern and pleasant work environment.

Feasibility Study

For the Stationspostgebouw, we have conducted both extensive archive research and a large-scale destructive concrete inspection. In doing so, we've demonstrated that the existing structure has the capacity it should have according to the old calculations. In several cases, the capacity proved to be slightly higher, which means fewer provisions are needed.
